Look at the Birds! (Focus on Faith)

I know some of you are thinking ‘what’?! I thought this was supposed to be about God’s Word.

Jesus said “26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?” Matthew 6:26

By creating a place in our yard for the birds to come bathe and eat, it gives us a chance for remembrance of how great God is.

We’re reminded of the Scripture above that teaches us God provides for the birds, and we’re much more important than they are, so He’ll provide for us, too. Yes, it does say God feeds the birds, so why should we? Because it brings them near to us, and they’re delightful!

Position your little bird bath and feeder next to a window where you sit. I remember a man who had put his humming bird feeder right outside his breakfast nook and he had over twenty of them coming to his feeder! He’d sit and watch them fight over the feeder, and zoom in and out. It’s like watching a good campfire; mesmerizing.

Having a special place for the birds to come eat and drink gives you a special place to commune with our LORD, and we all need time each day to reflect on how good God is, and just rest and relax, even if it’s just five minutes, while you enjoy a refreshing beverage.

You may even have to do like me, and set a timer on your cell phone! I set it for 10 am and 3 pm, so I take a break from my computer to exercise my wrists and back and neck and eat a healthy snack. I look at the birds and talk to God. All it takes is as little as ten minutes. (Two for exercise, and eight for watching the birds and talking to God!)

Some days it’s the only relaxing time I have. Why do we let our days be so packed with activities? We can still be in control of our time, and MUST!

Interestingly it is written in Isaiah 31:5 “As birds flying, so will the Lord of hosts defend Jerusalem; defending also he will deliver it; and passing over he will preserve it.”

God has His eyes on Jerusalem, and He has His eyes on all His elect. We are His elect, through our faith in Jesus Christ. We may be Gentiles, but Jesus came for us, so we’d believe and partake in the wedding banquet!

Matthew 22:1-14 “1 And Jesus answered and spake unto them again by parables, and said,

2 The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son,

3 And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not come.

4 Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage.

5 But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise:

6 And the remnant took his servants, and entreated them spitefully, and slew them.

7 But when the king heard thereof, he was wroth: and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city.

8 Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy.

9 Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage.

10 So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests.

11 And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment:

12 And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless.

13 Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness, there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

14 For many are called, but few are chosen.”

So, perhaps the first guests invited were Jews, and the second guests invited were Gentiles. “For many are called, but few are chosen.”

Do you believe in Christ Jesus as the risen Son of God? You’re invited. Will you be chosen?
