Volleyball Brings Home Tournament Hardware (Sports)

The Lady Panthers volleyball team captured 2nd place in the highly competitive Bastrop ISD tournament on August 21-23 and then followed up with a 3rd place finish in the tough St. Mary’s Hall Tournament on September 5 and 6. On Thursday in the Bastrop tournament the Panthers defeated Little River Academy, 2-0, Rockdale, 2-0, but then lost to Bryan Rudder, 0-2. Friday the Blanco girls beat Del Valle, 2-1, and Bryan, 2-1. On Saturday the Panthers outscored Bastrop, 2-0, Magnolia West, 2-0, and then lost in the finals to McNeil, 0-2. Stat leaders throughout the tournament for Blanco were Reagan Rogers with 122 kills and Lexee Jenkins with 35. Jenkins made 140 assists with Rogers adding 18. Rogers hit 22 aces followed by Jenkins and Payton Savarino with 14 each. Abbie Culton added 11 aces. Leaders in defensive digs were, Savarino, 55, Rogers, 46, Culton, 35, and Jenkins 34. Rogers hit 8 blocks with Jenkins and Jamie McClinton adding 3 each.

On Friday in the St. Mary’s Hall Tournament, the Panthers won 3 straight, beating Lytle, 2-0, San Antonio Christian, 2-0, and St. Johns, 2-0. On Saturday, Blanco defeated Boerne Geneva, 2-0, but lost 0-2 to Kinkaid, the eventual champion. The Panthers took 3rd place downing Medina Valley, 2-0. Rogers led the team with 95 kills, 10 assists, 7 aces, 42 digs, and 4 blocks. Jenkins made 105 assists, 25 kills, 8 aces, 28 digs, and 1 block. Kari Graham hit 11 service aces and added 15 digs. Savarino made 38 digs and 9 aces. Culton had 34 digs, Skylar Burns and McClinton each hit 3 blocks.

The Junior Varsity grabbed 3rd place in the Incarnate Word High School JV Tournament on Saturday, August 30. The Panthers defeated St. Mary’s Hall, 2-0 and Johnson City, 2-0. Blanco fell to East Central, 0-2, and Incarnate Word, 0-2.

The Panther Freshmen, Junior Varsity, and Varsity volleyball squads begin district play on Friday, September 12 at home against Florence with game times set for 4, 4, and 5. Come support the volleyball teams!
