I was never the kid who drew pictures or painted. One could usually find me at the barn with my horse. As an adult I remember thinking that I did not know how to draw a barn or make paper mache.
In 2009 I was diagnosed with a rare type of cancer. Horses, art, family and friends and my faith helped restore a sense of sanity to my life. Since that time I have worked to regain my health. I no longer own a horse but I do own paints. I am still daunted by a blank canvas but through friends, mentors and trial and error, painting is becoming more natural like riding a horse.
The two things pictured are my first tries at paper mache and watercolors. I was inspired by a friend who is a master at paper mache and a postcard of a Monet painting I carried around for years until I got brave enough to draw and watercolor what I had seen in France. When I moved to Blanco county I joined the Tejas Art Club. We meet the third Thursday of the month at 6PM for a potluck at the Blanco Library and paint together either Tuesdays from 12:30-2:30 at Uptown Blanco Art Center and Thursdays from 12:30-2:30 at the Blanco Library. The club members are so friendly and supportive and chose me as Artist of the Month.
