I’d just like to share what is written in God’s Word, regarding ‘giving’ (or giving alms). Do you give alms? An alm is a charitable donation, according to my dictionary in my computer.
I’m just sharing this because I came across it today, and thought it might be good for us to see, because everyone in Blanco gives to charities. We have a lot of charities in Blanco, and oftentimes we plaster our names on a heart or shamrock and tape them to windows in banks or stores, so people will know we are giving to someone or some charity.
Well, according to what Jesus said, we have already received our reward for that donation here on earth, and there will be no reward in heaven because we are ‘tooting our horn’ when we tell someone we’ve given money or some type of donation. So, if you want to reap a much better reward for your giving, do it in secret, and our heavenly Father will greatly reward us!
Jesus said, “1 Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven. 2 Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. 3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: 4 That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.” Matthew 6:1-4
