By John Kinslow, minister, Blanco church of Christ

Astronomers and mathematicians of centuries past have attempted to calculate the number of stars in the heavens. Hipparchus, a Grecian (190-120 BC), gave the number of stars as 1,026. Ptolemy of Egypt (85-165 AD) suggested 1,056 stars. Kepler, a German (1571-1630), after which the Kepler satellite is named, gave the number as 1,006 stars. However, scientists today estimate that there are more than 100 billion galaxies containing 200 billion stars each. Carl Sagan in the 1980s on his show ‘Cosmos’ said that there were more stars than all the grains of sand on all the beaches on earth.

This truth of innumerable stars was actually revealed centuries before man discovered it. Where is such knowledge? Around 600 BC it was recorded in scripture that “the host of heaven cannot be counted and the sand of the sea cannot be measured...” (Jeremiah 33:22). Supernatural knowledge such as this is evidence of the Bible being God’s inspired word (II Timothy 3:16). We marvel today at the pictures sent back to earth by the Hubble and Kepler space telescopes. Indeed, it is evidence of an awesome Creator. “The heavens are telling of the glory of God; And their expanse is declaring the work of His hands” (Psalms 19:1).

This is just one way in which our God hopes to get our attention. One is wise to seek the author of this book - the Bible. He has much more to say to you!

Come and learn from the greatest book ever written.
