What makes us think we are not included in the blessings and curses found in God’s Word? I’ve heard preachers say what God said in the Old Testament does not apply to us living now, since Christ came and died for our sins. I have to disagree. That just can’t be, because in the Old Testament we see how God sent His Word to the prophets to prophecy Jesus would come, and He did. Everything He said Christ would do has or will come true. We can’t negate the Old Testament! The sacrificial laws have changed because Jesus became the perfect sacrifice, so we don’t sacrifice animals to God for our sins. We believe in Jesus, because He became our sins and they are nailed to his cross; He was/is our sacrifice if we believe it and receive Him!
If His Word does not apply to us living now, then we could not be saved. So, since His Word does apply to us now, then the blessings for obedience and curses for disobedience must be true, too.
I like to read Deuteronomy 28 often. It encourages me, and reminds me as well, when I see what’s going on in the world. It explains a lot. I trust in God’s Word, and one woman said we can’t keep all God’s Commandments (she was speaking of Old Testament) and I said yes, I know, that’s why God sent Jesus!
And what did Jesus say about God’s laws and commandments? Well, we can read all about it in Matthew, chapter 5 and Mark, chapter 12.
Mark 12:28-31 - “ 28 And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all? 29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength:this is the first commandment. 31 And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.”
Therefore, we see the two most important Commandments are love God and love your neighbor as we love ourselves. When we fall short we ask God for forgiveness and help, and He does help us when we seek Him!
It’s the first Commandment we don’t hear a lot about. We read about people helping people, but we might need to focus on our love for God. Do you love God? Do you love His Son, Jesus the Christ?
Reality check. If you’re not sure you do, learn of Him by reading His Word, and fall in love with God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit! Believe in Jesus Christ, and be saved!
John 11:25 “25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life:he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:”.
