Candice Clara Caudell Raby, beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend was born on January 24, 1978 in Johnson City, Texas to James Warren and Debra Ann Goehmann Caudell. She passed away surrounded by her loving family at the age of 36 in Bexar County, San Antonio, Texas, on August 5th, 2014. She suffered a brief but courageous battle with ovarian cancer.
Candice was laid to rest in the Blanco Memorial Cemetery, Blanco, Texas on August 9th, 2014.
Candice was baptized on April 23rd, 1978 and was confirmed on October 25th, 1992 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blanco, Texas.
Candice was a graduate of Blanco High School in 1996, having attended Blanco Schools for 13 years. During her years at Blanco she was actively involved in many organizations. Some of these organizations included UIL events, especially participating in the One Act Play. Candice was an enthusiastic cheerleader, and loved sports. With her family being long time residents of Blanco County, Candice was always devoted to Blanco, feeling ownership and love for the people in the community. In August of 1995 she received the honor of Blanco County Queen representing the county in many events.
Candice extended her education at Southwest Texas State University, graduating Cum Laude in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science in Communication Disorders, followed by a Master’s Degree in Communication Disorders from Southwest Texas State University in 2003.
On February 18th, 2006, Candice Clara Caudell married James Franklin Raby (Jim) at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Blanco, Texas. She lovingly embraced Jim’s children, T.J. and Codie, and later their union was blessed with Carter James. Candice’s most treasured accomplishment was being a loving mother to her children and a cherishing wife to Jim. After their marriage they made their home in San Antonio, Texas. It was at this time that she began her career as a Speech Pathologist and often went “beyond the call” in her profession, by becoming friends with her patients and their families which ensured the success of their treatments.
Candice was preceded in death by grandparents, Chester (PawPaw) and Beatrice Clara “Pat” (Granny) Goehmann, grandfather Robert Caudell, grandfather Nim Smith and Uncle James Greenhaw.
Candice is survived by her husband, Jim, their son, Carter James, Thomas Justin (T.J.) and Dakota (Codie) Rose Raby of Blanco, parents, James and Debby Caudell of Blanco, sister Collin Gaskamp and husband Brian and their children Kaylin, Kolton and Kamryn of Blanco, grandmother Juanita Smith of Blanco, aunt Zoe Greenhaw of Blanco, parents-in-law Kathy and Gary Keim, sister-in-law Bitsy Raby and children Brittney, Mason and Brandal, brother-in-law Paul Raby and wife Kim and their children Tyler, Allie and Anna, all of Bridgeport, Texas. Step brother and sister-in-laws Doug and Kari Alhum and children Gavin, Talby, Graham, Reese, Donnie and Andrea Keim and son Bryar, Jarrett and Lindsey Keim and children Sloane and Paxton.
Candice was loved and will be missed by many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Pall Bearers were Brian Gaskamp, Zane Smith, Greg Smith, William Hourigan, T.J. Raby, Yadon Hardaway, Mason Daggett and Brandal Allie.
Candice was known and loved by many in the community. Her warm smile and big heart easily made her a friend to everyone she met.
