An Eagle Court of Honor was held for Kendall Hartmann at Blanco United Methodist Church on Saturday, August 9th. Kendall is the son of Larry and Tricia Hartmann, and he has three older brothers. His brothers are Todd, Tim, and Taylor Hartmann.
Kendall attained the rank of Eagle Scout on June 19th when he successfully passed his Board of Review. The rank of Eagle Scout is the highest rank afforded to Boy Scouts. Scouts who achieve the rank of Eagle must successfully complete all requirements and exemplify the traditions, principles, and values that Scouting upholds. Earning the rank of Eagle is not an ending, but a beginning. The rank of Eagle is earned by few, but carries a lifetime of responsibility, service, and rewards.
About 75 people gathered for Kendall’s ceremony. These individuals included family, friends, fellow scouts, and community members. The American Legion Post 352 of Blanco, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) were on hand to make special presentations.
Commander Ted Weeks of the American Legion presented an American Flag to Kendall. American Legion Service Officer Tom Avants was there to present Kendall with a Good Citizenship Certificate. Past Commander Bruce Huguelet of the American Legion presented Kendall with a Texas State Flag from Texas State Representative Jason Isaac. The flag had flown over the Texas State Capitol in Austin in Kendall’s honor. State Representative Jason Isaac also sent a congratulatory letter. Retired United States Air Force Colonel David Park presented the Eagle Scout certificate to Kendall on behalf of the VFW of Dripping Springs. Several other certificates and letters were shared with the assembly and given to Kendall.
Kendall had many opportunities to learn about leadership during his years in Boy Scouts. One of those opportunities was to plan, develop, and lead his Eagle Project. The Eagle Project demonstrated both leadership and a commitment to duty. Kendall’s Eagle Project was the Yett Park Community Center Safety Project. This Project represented a collaborative effort of Scouts and local community leadership.
Kendall’s Court of Honor represented a collaborative effort as well. Several Eagle Scouts served as the Honor Guard, and Boy Scouts served as the Flag Guard. Honor Guard members were: Janos Arnosky, Wes Stults, and Grant Weaver. Other Eagle Scouts attending the Court of Honor were: Kendall’s cousin Kevin Hoegenauer, Robert Cox, Trey Cox, and Rev. Bill Mosley, who served on Kendall’s Board of Review. Boy Scouts assisting with the Court of Honor were: Thomas Kirkscey, Morgan Lockwood, and Skylar Wagner. Those leading the Eagle Court of Honor program were: Judge Don Barnett, Eagle Charge; Assistant Scout Master Larry Kuebel, Master of Ceremony; Scout Master Joe Lockwood, Presenter; and Grant Weaver, Texas A&M Corp of Cadets 3rd Brigade Commander; Voice of the Eagle.
Kendall wishes to thank all individuals who helped with the ceremony. He expresses heartfelt gratitude to his family and to the leadership of Troop 497. The leadership of Troop 497 includes Joe and Niki Lockwood, Larry and Kay Kuebel, Steve Lamphier, Bret Barnett, Don Barnett, and Denise Wagner. Kendall would also like to express his thanks to the scouts of Troop 497, and to the Blanco United Methodist Church for sponsoring Blanco Troop 497.
