The Hill County Law Enforcement Association (HCLEA) was formed about a year ago at the urging of then Blanco County Sheriff Bill Elsbury following the late sheriff’s vision to promote and encourage more communication and cooperation among the Sheriffs’ offices in the local judicial district.
With Sheriff Elsbury as the cornerstone, the sheriffs of Blanco, Burnet, Llano, San Saba, and Lampasas counties, along with their designated employees, began meeting.
The HCLEA meets monthly on the third Thursday at 11:30am with a liaison/lunchtime, followed by a presentation/training session of subject matter relevant to public safety and public service mission of the members, and ending with a brief business meeting.
After several meetings, the group decided to expand membership to all law enforcement agencies located or operating in the judicial district, including state and federal agencies. The membership now includes police departments, DPS officers, Texas Rangers, game wardens, county officers, and federal agents.
Previous presentations to the group have included Texas DPS Captain Jose Portillo, ATF RAC Mike Reyes, State District Judge Dan Mills, District Attorney-elect Sonny McAfee, District Judge-elect Alan Garrett, and training by the FBI.
Jack H. Schumacher, a husband, father, grandfather, career law enforcement professional, public servant, and nine-year resident of Marble Falls is the current president of the HCLEA.
“We continually seek to promote the goals of district enhanced communication and cooperation while providing the most recent and relevant training and information available,” Schumacher says. “As career law enforcement and public service professionals dedicated to protect and serve the people of this judicial district, we welcome any suggestions, requests, and support from our customers, you the citizens.”
