Soccer Field Contruction Underway at Yett Park (Community News)

By Danilea Wiedman

During the 1940’s, when the property of Yett Park was “officially” deeded to the Blanco Chamber of Commerce, the Yett family had only a few stipulations. One of the most important was that it benefit and support the community. With the new addition of The Blanco Youth Soccer Association’s soccer fields, these wishes will extend far beyond the bounds of the City of Blanco and Blanco County, bringing youth and community together in grand style.

The Blanco Youth Soccer Association has practiced and played on the property of Security State Bank & Trust for the last several years. Without this privilege, the Association would not have had the opportunity to grow as it has, and because of this, it now requires larger grounds to practice and play on. Robert Seymour, Vice-President of The Blanco Youth Soccer Association expressed his deepest gratitude to Security State Bank & Trust. “We wouldn’t have made it without them”, he said. “We also would not be here if it was not for the generosity of Dirt Works; they are volunteering to take on the incredible project of leveling the ground.”

Although construction is underway, it won’t be until next year before games can be held at Yett Park. The main field will be regulation size, allowing for youth up to age 17 to play, “I am excited to see the older youth have an opportunity to play on a regulation size field. I am even more excited with the hopes and anticipation of a Traveling League team to include Johnson City and Blanco youth. Right now they have to go to Dripping Springs or Austin.” Seymour said.

In addition to the main field, there is the possibility of two other practice fields; their location is to be determined in the future.
