Proverbs 18:6-8
“6 A fool’s lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for strokes.
7 A fool’s mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.
8 The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.”
Have you ever been told something about someone that you can’t get out of your mind? Why do we want to hear things about people, when we forget that what we’re hearing is probably not even true? Even the best of people, and people in high places, don’t always have the facts right.
Colossians 3:8-10
“8 But now ye also put off all these; anger, “malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.
9 Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;
10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:”
We must put on Christ. Romans 13:14 “But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.”
How do we “put on Christ?”
Galatians 3:27-29 “For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female:for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.”
Have you ever talked with someone who said “Well, how do we know if we’re Abraham’s seed, and what if we’re not?” Well, the last verse above made me shout when I read it! “If ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed AND HEIRS according to the promise!” So we are heirs to the promises God gave to Abraham; they are ours, too!!!
Colossians 3:23-25 “23 And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;
24 Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.
25 But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons.”
Proverbs 18:20-21 “20 A man’s belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.
21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.”
Don’t you wish you could keep your mouth shut?!
Matthew 12:33-37
“33 Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit.
34 O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.
35 A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.
36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.
37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.
