It’s not just people that get facelifts, homes can get them too. Your home might need some touch ups inside and out. Along with regular maintenance, there are things you can do to add curb appeal and a bit of change inside and out. Sometimes we just get tired of looking at the same thing. How many of us move furniture around for change? Well, there are some things you can do to give your home a bit of a change too. We’ll break down the inside and outside separately to give you some ideas.
On the outside, curb appeal is very important if you are selling. But if you are not selling and just tired of driving up to the same ole house, change it. Amazing what a good power washing and paint job can do for starters. Adding shutters to either a wood or brick home can make a difference. A nice porch can be so inviting, comfortable, and even provide some additional shade that can help with those utility bills. Landscaping and lighting can totally enhance the look. You might want to get with a landscaper to design that perfect look. Also, ask them what plants they recommend. And on the lighting, always remember the night sky’s and don’t go with upward lighting. There are people that can talk to you more about what lights they would recommend that do not affect the night sky. Want to add stone to part of the front? Or change your siding? Yes, these can be done too. A lot depends on your budget, though. Always, know what you can spend. Talk to a builder about other options.
The inside has so many options too. Of course, you need to know your budget here as well, especially if you want to get into kitchen and bathroom remodels. But, if you just want some updates, paint is the most popular. Following paint is flooring. To add some extras, think about some crown molding, bead board accents, window treatments, wood trim around windows and doors, new lights and fans, and maybe a wood burning stove to name a few. Some people like to paint a wall a bright color for an accent. Others like to remove the carpet and go to wood. Crown molding at the ceiling has so many patterns available, with different looks. Bead board is nice on ceilings, walls, and just half way up a wall with a chair rail accent. There are lots of new designer ceiling fans and lights to select from these days. Put some blinds up with just an accent curtain, and remove the heavy drapes. Adding wood accents around doors and windows can be done in cedar or a painted trim board. Most homes that don’t have a fireplace, can have one added. Fireplaces can be the old fashion pot belly, Ben Franklin, or full custom stone, depending on your taste and what your home can handle. It is best to talk to a builder about what your home can accommodate regarding a fireplace. There are so many other things to do, but these items might help with that facelift inside.
