Editor,

In considering the schools latest scandal, about someone on the school faculty, who has broken our trust, we should take time to reflect and use this window of opportunity to make changes. This window will close quickly, and if we don’t take advantage of it, and be genuinely willing to better ourselves, we will find we are, again, back to our old habits. If we don’t acknowledge that we have many more areas in which to improve, we could find ourselves in a much bigger scandal, perhaps on a national level. The apparent arrogance has taken us far away from, what should be our community goals.

I beg you to take a special interest in looking at other red flags for the sake of our children’s health and education. Specifically, dive into the complaint drawers of the superintendents and principals. Please stop turning a blind eye and playing dumb by neglecting concerns that could become as much as an embarrassment as the coach giving out answers to the STARR test.

The capability of growth in our schools is based on the trust students have in their leaders, teachers, and administration. Once students lose respect for their leaders there will be no effective way to regain that respect and to be successful in imparting knowledge to them.

Faith always = trust. Please become our children’s advocates and listen to their concerns about their school. And remember, if there are no children there will be no school. Several parents have transferred their children to other schools and I know of others who are leaving this year.

Since when are we more concerned about winning reward money than being concerned in winning our children’s faith?

Maria Barraco (Joaquin Olmedo’s mom+4), Blanco, Tx
