Event, Music, and Speaker Schedule for 10th Annual Lavender Festival (Community News)

The 10th Annual Lavender Festival kicks off Friday, June 13 at Noon. Make sure to visit the Information Booth on the Square for additional information.

Lavender Festival Market

-Friday Noon to 6 PM

-Saturday 9 AM to 6 PM

-Sunday 10 AM to 4 PM

Friday 13th:

-Master Gardener’s present A Firewise Program all day

Saturday 14th

-Master Gardener’s present A Firewise Program all day

-Artist David Mills painting en plein aire- Prairie Project

-10am: Shari Bauer speaking on Fairy Houses & Gardens

-12pm-4pm: Alan Newman presenting Honey Bee Demo

-2pm: Handmade Soap Demo

-3pm: Shari Bauer speaking on Fairy Houses & Gardens

In the field:

-Flag Day

Sunday 15th:

-Master Gardener’s presenting Firewise Program all day

12pm-4pm: Alan Newman of Alamo Beekeepers Association presenting Honey Bee Demo

Daily in field: Fairy Habitat open, Monarch Way Station, Childrens activities.

Friday 13th:

-12pm-”History of Hill Country Lavender and Growing Lavender in Texas”

Saturday 14th

-10am- Lavender Wand Making Class - $10 each

-1pm- “Here’s What I’ve Learned” - meet the owner and ask her about growing lavender.

Tickets are $10.00 at the gate. Children under 12 are free.

Speaker’s Pavilion

-On Saturday:

11:30 am - Texas Lavender Association - Panel discussion with members of the Texas Lavender Association. Bring your questions about growing, harvesting, and marketing Texas Lavender. If you want to grow lavender as a hobby or as a business, or sell lavender products, this is a great resource for your questions.

-1:00 pm - Melanie Van Aken - All About Lavenders History, Use and Growing Tips. In the 10th year of growing and using culinary and medicinal herbs, including lavender, Melanie Van Aken (of Heron’s Nest Herb Farm) will share lavender’s history as well as its amazing and valuable uses. She will also be sharing her own experience with growing, harvesting and making products with Lavender Essential Oil. You will have an opportunity to make a unique Essential Oil Mister at the end ($5 optional)

2:30 pm - Master Gardeners of Blanco County. Panel discussion with local Master Gardeners will include what Master Gardeners can do for you and your community, living with deer in the Hill Country, Fire Wise landscaping - to protect your home from wildfires, drought tolerant plants, native trees and grasses, invasive species and suggested alternatives.

-On Sunday:

11:30 am - Valerie Greene - Wimberley Valley Gourmet Specialties will speak on ways to use fresh herbs and lavender in your food. Food will be available for sampling to see how tasty culinary infused oils and vinegars can be. Featured lavender dish will be ice cream with a lavender Balsamic Vinegar!

1:00 pm - Melanie Van Aken - Be a part of the Bee Solution. Beginner beekeeper Melanie Van Aken will share how you can help and not harm your local bee populations. Hear practical ideas for your own garden to support all of your pollinators, especially bees. Learn some amazing facts about honey and the hive.

2:15 pm - Fred Van Aken - Growing Lavender “Off the Grid”. Rainwater collection and Solar driven drip irrigation have produced great results in the field at Heron’s Nest Herb Farm. Farmer Fred Van Aken will share his experience with growing herbs including lavender, tips for creating just the right soil, troubleshooting for herbs and lavender’s special needs.
