Track records were tied, broken, and broken again this year at Blanco High School.
Lady Panther track member Meaghen Seales, set the new BHS record in the 800 meter run capturing 3rd place at the State meet with a time of 2:17.97. Bret Leigh Nance had previously broken the record this year with a time of 2:19, and then placed 4th at State running 2:18.12.5. The 800 meter record holder was Abby Beard with a time of 2:20 set in 2010. Charlsey Smith shattered the long jump record with a jump of 17’ 2 ¼ “. The previous record was set in 2004 by Haylee Hunter with a jump of 16’ 11”.
Panther track speedster, Alex Palos, set a new BHS record in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.79. Juan Hernandez set the previous record in 2003 with a time of 11.06. Ross Edwards tied the current high jump record jumping 6’ 2”. Ben Bucklin also cleared 6’ 2” in 2001.
Alex Palos, Adrien Dominguez, Aikman Elrod and John Hodge blazed a new record in the 400 meter relay with a time of 43.54. The previous record was set in 2004 by Chris San Miguel, Julian “Pepe” Mancha, Michael Trevino, and Juan Hernandez with a time of 43.76.
Seales, Palos, and Hodge are Seniors at BHS.
