Wielding the Sword and Prayer (Focus on Faith)

By Mrs. Lawrence Coffee

We studied Matthew, chapter 4 today in our church service. That’s where the Lord Jesus battles with the devil, using God’s Word. You know the devil will distort God’s Word, and use it to mislead us, so we have to seek God’s Word to wield it back at him, like Jesus did. I’m speaking to someone who is ensnared in the web of the devil, who can’t get out. I’m speaking to someone who needs to pray to God, in Jesus’ name, out loud, speaking God’s Word, to cut through that web of bondage and be free in Christ; freed by His Blood and His Word. God hears us when we call out!

Psalm 5 “1-12 “Give ear to my words, O Lord, consider my meditation.

2 Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for unto thee will I pray.

3 My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O Lord; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.

4 For thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness: neither shall evil dwell with thee.

5 The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity.

6 Thou shalt destroy them that speak leasing: the Lord will abhor the bloody and deceitful man.

7 But as for me, I will come into thy house in the multitude of thy mercy: and in thy fear will I worship toward thy holy temple.

8 Lead me, O Lord, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies; make thy way straight before my face.

9 For there is no faithfulness in their mouth; their inward part is very wickedness; their throat is an open sepulchre; they flatter with their tongue.

10 Destroy thou them, O God; let them fall by their own counsels; cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions; for they have rebelled against thee.

11 But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee.

12 For thou, Lord, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield.”

I don’t know the troubles you have. I can’t tell you what Scriptures to wield. But I know there is no sin that hasn’t already been committed, so our problems and answers are in God’s Word. Seek and ye shall find. Set yourself as top priority, and set out each day doing something for yourself, which is: seek God’s Word to find someone with your same problems, and read what God did for them. His Word is for all of us, and He wants all of us to live and prosper, both physically and spiritually.

Our joy, peace, and prosperity come by and through Jesus Christ. He died that we may have life, and we can rejoice when we receive Him as our Savior, and give up that old life for our newness in Christ. His peace is not like the world gives; it is the peace of understanding through our faith in Him.

Without Jesus we are lost, sinking in despair. Through Jesus, and by His Blood, we are freed from bondages of all kinds. If you believe in Christ Jesus and He is Your Lord and Savior, you can ask your pastor or deacon or a friend who believes in Jesus Christ and the power of prayer to pray with you, commanding the spirits tormenting you to depart in Jesus’ name. And at the same time it’s important that you ask Jesus to fill you with the fruit of the Spirit (see Galatians 5:22-23 below) so as to leave no emptiness in you (so those bad tormenting spirits can’t come back with more as in Matthew 12:43-45)!

Galatians 5:18-23 “18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.

19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,

20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,

21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.”

Pray that God fill you with His fruit of His Spirit, so there is no void in you, and no emptiness. Meditate on God’s Word, and be filled with His love, peace and joy. Study Psalm 91.
