Senior Meaghen Seales and sophomore Bret Leigh Nance both qualified for the State Track and Field meet as a result of their performance at the Region IV track meet held last Saturday in Converse.

Nance qualified in two events, first winning the 800 meter run in a school record-breaking time of 2:19, then finishing second in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:33.

“It’s really cool,” said Nance when asked about her performance at the Regional meet. “I Hope to run even better at state.” Nance is ranked as the top seed in Class 2A in the 800 meters.

Seales, who will be making her fourth and final trip to the state meet, finished second in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:22. She is ranked as the number three seed in that event.

“It’s really exciting making it to the state meet four years in a row,” said Seales, who shared an added incentive to motivate her. “I told mrs. Petri (Family and Consumer Sciences teacher), ‘If I win state, you can give me your recipe for those cookies you make!’”

Coach Brandi Mumme said,”I am so excited for Meaghen and Bret! They both work harder than anyone I know, and it has paid off! State will be fun; they both have a chance to medal.”

Nance and Seales run the 800 meter run at the state meet at 6:20pm on Friday, May 9. Nance runs the 1600 meter run at 8:45pm.
