Sales tax collection remains a key revenue source in local funding. On September 12, the Office of the Texas Comptroller distributed $86,690 in sales tax to local Blanco County governments, bringing the total to $1,198,346 to end the current fiscal year. Local entities receiving sales tax revenue include Blanco County, the cities of Blanco, Johnson City and Round Mountain, and the Blanco County North and South Library Districts.
When a business selling taxable goods opens in Blanco County, collecting sales tax for use by local government is just one of its benefits to local citizens. A strong local business environment contributes to the vitality of the local community by offering employment opportunities and contributing to the commercial property tax base.
Assisting taxpayers to better understand what property and sales taxes are collected, who is collecting them and how taxes are being spent, the Comptroller's office has recently released two informational websites; www.TexasItsYourMoney.org and www.TexasTransparency.org. Locally, the Blanco County proposed 2012-2013 budget can be found at www.co.blanco.tx.us while the Blanco County Appraisal District's website, www.blancocad.com is an excellent informational resource on local taxing entities and associated tax rates and the role of the Appraisal District in the property tax process.
