With an 18-1 win over the Comfort Deer last Thursday, April 15, the Lady Panthers softball team posted a 7-1 district record to tie with the Johnson City Lady Eagles as Co-District Champions.
Against Comfort, the Panthers used 12 hits and 4 walks to score 18 runs. Payton Savarino busted 2 doubles for 5 rbi. Andrea Calzoncit ripped a single and a double for 3 rbi. Abbie Culton, Meaghen Seales, and Jamie McClinton each hit 2 singles. Cheyenne Klein and Charlsey Smith both hit singles. Smith knocked in 3 runs, with Culton and McClinton adding 2 rbi each. McClinton, Klein and Savarino each scored 3 runs. Seales pitched 2 innings, tossing 2 strikeouts. Calzoncit pitched one inning in the 3 inning, 15 run-rule game.
When teams tie as Co-Champs, there is a need to determine the seeding position for the playoff brackets. The teams can play another game for the playoff spot or they can flip a coin for the choice. Blanco and Johnson City flipped a coin, with Blanco winning the toss and choosing to go into the playoff brackets in the runner-up position. This decision was based on the potential for a deeper run into the playoffs.
The Panthers face the Luling Lady Eagles at 6:00pm on Thursday, April 24 at Huber Ranch in Seguin.
