The Blanco FFA Entomology and Livestock Teams recently competed at the Texas State University Career Development Events in San Marcos and New Braunfels. Overall, more than 200 schools and 2,000 contestants participated in this year’s event.
In the entomology division, Blanco would take home top honors placing 1st overall out of 27 schools. Individually, Deann Sevilla and Megan Wier tied for high individual with perfect scores, and Rance Dollahite placed 10th. Other members competing included Jessica Sevilla, Cheyenne Klein, Joaquin Olmeda, Connor Anderson and Ian Kirkland. There were more than 100 contestants in the entomology division.
Blanco’s livestock team would also do well placing 6th out of 121 teams. Logan Dodd and Brenna Wallace would be recognized for their efforts ranking 16th and 20th respectively. Other local FFA members judging livestock were Ryan Edwards, Kari Graham, Garrett Seales, Jacob Robinson, Payton Savarino, Molly Edmondson, Maggie Reininger, Carson Kipp and Jacob Fuller. There were 571 individuals participating in the livestock CDE.
More than 30 Blanco FFA members will now turn their focus to their respective upcoming state competitions. The range, land and homesite teams will travel to Hamilton on Tuesday for the state qualifiers event before heading to Stephenville to compete in the State FFA CDE’s hosted by Tarleton State University on Thursday. The entomology team will then travel to Lubbock to compete in the State FFA CDE’s hosted by Texas Tech on Saturday. Finally, the livestock team will participate the following Thursday in the state livestock evaluation clinic hosted by Tarleton and Clarendon College in Stephenville before traveling to College Station for the State FFA Livestock CDE at Texas A&M University.
