Congratulations to the Blanco County 4-H Shooting Education shooters who participated in the Texas State BB Gun Championship that was held in Johnson City on March 7-8, 2014. Two teams and four individuals proved their ability at this match. They include: Team #1: Caleb Dowdy, Hailey Bickley, Ross Sultemeier, Hugh Galloway, Quaid Thompson Valerie Coffey, and Kourtney Kyzar; Team #2: Keaton Kyzar, Johnny Hernandez, Garrett DeSpain, Cody Sprouse, Reid Sultemeier, Joshua Vasquez, Bayleigh DeSpain; and individuals: Gavin Allen, Rylee Welch, Dusti Welch, and Blaze Welch. 29 medals were earned by these amazing shooters.
The competition included several teams and individuals throughout the state of Texas. Blanco County Team #1 received the overall Bronze trophy and will be competing at the national competition which will be in Rogers, Arkansas during the week of July 4th.
This competition consisted of a written 50 question test followed by actual shooting in four positions which included prone, standing, sitting, and kneeling. The competition was sanctioned by the National Rifle Association and sponsored by the Texas State Rifle Association.
Heading up this talented group of shooters is the Blanco County 4-H Shooting Education instructor, Gordon Dowdy. Assisting Mr. Dowdy as coaches were Shannon Sultemeier, Tim Vasquez, Donnie Sprouse, Ross Allen, Wes Galloway
The 4-H Shooters wish to send out a huge “Thank You” to Johnson City Bank for sponsoring the group in the competition this year. Also much appreciation goes out to the donators: Blanco Sonic, Lowes (Johnson City), Tammi Marrs, Van Smith, Bryan Coffey, Kip and Sandi Thompson; along with the hours of help and other items provided by Neil Nebgen, Chuck Schmidt, Neil & Frieda Shipley (TSRA), Suree Birck, Debby Sultemeier, Sherry Conlon, Wes Galloway, Heath & Toni Kyzar, Glen and Gwen Portie, Shelton Coleman, and the meal prepared by Chris Welch of Lone Oak BBQ. Also thank you to the parents and families that helped to make the competition a huge success.
Keep an eye out for these talented shooters around the county. They will be hosting several fund raisers to earn money for the travel expenses to the National Competition. Please come out and support our youth who will be proudly representing Blanco County.
