
On Friday March 7 and Saturday March 8, the Panther softball team turned up the heat during another cold front to go 4-0 for 1st place in the Fredericksburg Tournament.
Facing Center Point on Friday morning the Panthers tallied 11 hits to beat the Pirates 9-0. Abbie Culton, Jamie McClinton, Cheyenne Klein, and Payton Savarino each hit 2 singles. Savarino added 3 rbi. Meaghen Seales pitched the 6 inning shut-out.
At noon Blanco defeated the Lampasas Badgers 8-2. Culton scored 3 runs on 4 hits including 3 singles and a triple. McClinton hit 2 singles and a double with 2 rbi. Klein batted a single and 2 doubles with 2 rbi. Kasie Dowdy leveled 2 singles. Seales pitched 3 innings tossing 4 strike outs with Savarino going 2 innings with 2 strikeouts.
Friday afternoon the Panthers nabbed their third win of the day with an 8-3 victory over Country Day, a private school from Fort Worth. McClinton led the team scoring 2 runs on 3 hits including 2 singles and a triple with 2 rbi. Andrea Calzoncit tallied 3 singles. Culton and Seales each hit 2 singles. Seales and Savarino split the pitching duties tossing 3 innings each.
On Saturday the Panthers battled the tournament host Fredericksburg Billies in the semi-final round. Blanco edged Fredericksburg for the win, 7-5. Charlsey Smith and Katlinn Calzoncit paced the team with 2 singles and 1 rbi each. Klein smashed a double to bring in 2 runs. Seales and Savarino shared the pitching duties again.
The championship game was a rematch of the Blanco-Lampasas game; however, the remainder of the tournament was rained out. Since Blanco was undefeated and had beaten Lampasas on Friday, the Panthers won the tournament.
The Panthers begin district play on Tuesday, March 11.
