Panthers Fall in Area Playoff Beat Karnes City in Bi-District Round (Sports)

The Panthers boys basketball team started the playoffs with a strong Bi-District win, 67-47, over the Karnes City Badgers at Littleton Gym in San Antonio on Tuesday, February 18. Facing Hitchcock in the Area round on Friday, February 21 at Columbus, the Panthers led 34-30 at the half, but lost the battle in the 4th quarter with a final score 53-62.

The Panthers completed an outstanding season with a 25-6 overall record and an 8-0 district record.

In the game against Karnes City, Kyle Sauceda led the team scoring 18 points, Carlin Green sank 13, with Brett Champion adding 10 points.

David Ramirez and Jacob McCaslin each made 7 points. Ty Royce scored 6, with Josh McCaslin adding 4 Trent Dechert sank 2 points.

Against Hitchcock Green paced the Panthers scoring 16. Champion made 10, with Ramirez adding 8. Sauceda scored 7 and Josh McCaslin sank 6. Jacob McCaslin made 4 with Royce scoring 2 points.

All-District honors were announced last week. Sauceda was named District MVP, with Green receiving offensive co-MVP and Ramirez receiving defensive co-MVP. Jacob McCaslin was named co-Newcomer of the year. Josh Mccaslin and Champion each received 1st team honors. Royce made 2nd team with Tyler Schlinke and Dechert receiving honorable mention.
