If your team’s defense forces their opponent to punt or turn over the ball on downs on each of their possessions, a win is much easier to tally. Combine this stifling defense with an offense that churned out 6 touchdown scores and the result is a shut out victory.

The Blanco junior varsity used this game plan to defeat the Randolph Ro-Hawks 42-0 on Thursday, November 8. The Panthers scored their first touchdown on a 15-yard scamper by quarterback Jordan Wagner. Wagner completed a pass to Logan Dodd in the corner of the end zone for the 2-point conversion. With 5:33 in the first quarter, Blanco led 8-0.

On their next possession the Ro-Hawks threatened with a long pass play to the end zone, but Phil Alvarado made an outstanding defensive play tipping the pass away from the receiver. The defense held Randolph, taking possession of the ball after stopping the Ro-Hawks on the 4th down.

The Panthers moved the ball downfield on a 15-yard pass completion from Wagner to Ross Edwards.

Wasting no time, Blanco scored again on a 40-yard run by Chase Horton. Wagner again hit Dodd in the end zone for 2 points. At the end of the first quarter, the panthers led 16-0.

Blanco added 2 touchdowns in the second quarter. Chase Horton dashed 20 yards for the score with Ryan Ronces powering his way into the end zone for the 2-point conversion.

After a 20-yard punt return by Dodd, Ronces plowed through the line and ran 40 yards for another touchdown. The conversion failed. Blanco took a 30-0 lead into halftime.

The second half began with a bang for Blanco. Eddie Torres grabbed the kickoff and zipped 75 yards for a touchdown. The extra point kick failed, with the Panthers leading 36-0.

Randolph again made a long pass attempt, but the Blanco defense held firm with Jarred Mayfield returned the interception to 20. The offense drove the ball downfield eating up the time on the clock, with runs by Torres, Ronces, and Aaron Uballe. Wagner dove across the goal line for the score. The PAT was blocked. The Panthers defense controlled the game the remaining 4 minutes. Blanco 42-0.

Outstanding tackles were made by Dylan Bates, Dru Ramirez, Tray Hodge, Terry Yarbrough, Joe Lopez, Levi Windham, Jack Morgan, Justin Williams, and Ryan Bible.

The Blanco junior varsity completed an awesome season as district champions, 5-0, and an overall record of 8-1. The Panthers only loss was their season opener to Canyon Lake, 14-38. The Panthers completed their year with 4 shutouts, 3 of which were their final 3 games. The team scored an impressive 311 points while holding their opponents to 98 points. The future looks bright for Panthers football!
