Kevin and his AQHA horse Kansas Artillery shot six stages over two days and beat his closest competitor by eleven seconds, winning the Western Southern Regional Shoot held in Salado, Texas on October 6 and 7. Mounted shooters from as far away as Idaho and Tennessee attended the match where they shot for over $5,000 in cash and prizes.

Kevin and Kansas next will be heading to Amarillo, Texas the week of October 17 – 21 to attend the Tony Lama World Championship, where there are over 300 qualified shooters entered. They will be shooting for $80,000 in prizes and added $31,000 in prize monies. Entries for the World Championship not only come from the United States but as far away as Sweden, New Zealand and our neighbors to the north, Canada. This is Kevin’s third year in a row to qualify for the World Championship.

Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association is the fastest-growing equestrian sport in the nation. Mounted shooters use .45 caliber single-action revolvers like those used in the late 1800s. Single-action revolvers must be cocked each time before firing by drawing the hammer back. A double-action revolver can be fired by simply pulling the trigger, without cocking the hammer. Despite the use of double-action revolvers in the Old West, the CMSA limits our competitions to single action revolvers.
