A musical benefit held Saturday, February 2, near Dripping Springs on behalf of the Blanco Good Samaritan Center raised more than $2,000.
Organizer Harvey Trahan and his Practical Action group hosted the first-time-ever event, which featured musicians Billy Garcia and the Hill Country Ramblers, Bobby Mack and Zydeco Blanco. The six-hour fundraiser was held at the Barn at Bells Springs. Both the bands and the venue donated their time.
David Gardener, Mike Ashley and Jack Allen (with their wives Donna Ashley and Rosemary Allen) cooked and served chicken and beef throughout the evening. They, too, donated their time.
A silent auction–run by Sarah Garrett, who volunteers at the non-profit center–of specialty items and clothing from the Blanco Good Samaritan Center’s thrift store raised more than $400.
In total, the evening raised $2,274 for the Good Samaritan, which gives food and financial assistance to residents across Blanco County. Also, people that evening donated food items that filled two shopping carts.
“We are so appreciative of all the work that everyone did to make the benefit happen,” said Sheryl Smith-Rodgers, president of the center. “Everyone had a great time, too. It was a wonderful evening.”
The all-volunteer center, located at 620 Pecan St., is funded by thrift stores sales, contributions and grants. New volunteers are always welcomed, and applications are available. For more information, call 830-833-5269.
