The University Interscholastic League announced the 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 football and basketball alignments on Monday February 3. A significant change that affects all UIL schools is the renaming of 6-man football schools to 1A, therefore bumping all schools up a conference and creating a 6A conference. Blanco will now play football in Conference 3A Division 2. Conference 3A schools have student enrollments in the range of 220 to 464. In football the 3A schools are divided into Division I, enrollments of 315 to 464 and Division II, enrollments of 220 to 314. Blanco has an enrollment of 294 placing Blanco football in the smaller 3A division. Now assigned to District 14, Blanco will play Karnes City, Natalia, Nixon Smiley, Poth, and Stockdale for the next two fall seasons. Former district football opponents Rogers and Jarrell moved to District 10 with Lexington going to District 12. Moving to 3A Division I, Randolph joins Comfort, Ingram, Luling, Marion, and Cole for the larger 3A division. Johnson City and Schulenburg move to Conference 2A Division I. Johnson City will play Brackettville, Center Point, Harper, Junction, Mason, and Sabinal.
In basketball alignments there are no divisions within the conferences so, for example, all 3A schools will play schools within the 220 to 464 enrollment. Blanco will be in District 25 with Comfort, Florence, Georgetown Gateway College Prep, Ingram, Jarrell, and Lago VIsta. While this alignment is only currently assigned to basketball, the basketball districts are usually the same grouping for volleyball, softball, baseball, track, cross country, golf, tennis and academics.
Officially, all the other sports and academic alignments will be announced by the UIL no later than April 15, 2014. A complete list of all alignments are available at the UIL website, www.uiltexas.org.
