This summer a gentleman phoned from Georgia seeking a home for a Bible. After
hearing his story and doing some investigation about him, it was decided to honor
his wishes to find a home for the Bible here in Texas. Well, readers, as time passed, we found out more and more information about his story. Finally, an offer was made to place the Bible in the Blanco Pioneer Museum until we decided the Bible needed to be replaced with something else, after which we would secure a home for the Bible that would be significant to the Bible’s history. The gentleman agreed to these arrangements, so now the museum has possession of the Bible.
On November 17, the museum will introduce the history of the Bible and reveal the donor family and why this Bible has significance to our small town of Blanco. The bible is 212 years old and has made many a trip in a saddle pack or a chuck wagon traveling the cattle drive trails. Our museum will not only celebrate the Bible but will have a horse massaging demonstration by Mrs. Lightfoot, Mr. Alex Dormont will favor us with cowboy songs and play the guitar, and other entertainment will fill the afternoon from 1 pm until 4 pm. Bring a lawn chair and enjoy the afternoon at the museum. If you come earlier you can take advantage of items we will be selling to clean out our garage, too!
Recently visitors from Argentina, Peru, Canada and Australia have graced our museum with their presence. It has been fun visiting with them and seeing their expressions of amazement at our heritage. We wish them well on their journeys.
Our thanks go to Ken Fortune and Lawrence Coffee for their assistance during the tour of our special visitors. Everyone had a great day.
