The Devil Can Even Use A Woodpecker (Focus on Faith)

The story is told about a man who woke up at 5:00 a.m. to a terrible knocking on his roof. Still in his pajamas and groggy from just waking up, he walked out into the backyard to investigate. He saw a woodpecker on the TV antenna pounding its little brains out on the metal pole. He was so angry that he picked up a rock and threw it at the little woodpecker. The rock sailed over the house and he heard a crash as it went through his car windshield on the other side of the house. Even angrier, he gave a good hard kick to a rock on the ground, only to remember too late that he was still barefoot!

All anger is not sinful and may indeed serve a good purpose, and provide motivation for needed action, but uncontrolled anger often has terrible consequences. As the scriptures state, “Be angry, and yet do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and do not give the devil an opportunity.” (Ephesians 4:26-27). Often in time of anger we are inclined to react without giving much thought to the consequences. Even justified anger can act in an irrational way. We can all benefit greatly from the teaching that the Lord has for us. The Lord is waiting to bless you through His word.
