Pedernales Electric Cooperative is proud of all the ways it powered and empowered its members in 2013, most notably by attaining top ten percentile reliability ratings according to an annual report released this year by the National Rural Utilities Cooperative Finance Corporation. Every year PEC’s Board of Directors sets ambitious goals for the Co-op in a number of categories, including reliability, safety, member service and cost performance, and evaluates the Cooperative’s performance based on a set of metrics.

In 2013 PEC employees achieved or exceeded several goals, improving reliability and safety and reducing controllable costs. In addition, members ranked the Cooperative highly in national customer satisfaction surveys, and the Co-op saw record participation in many of its annual events and programs, including the Annual Membership Meeting, the Hill Country Solar Tour and its Beat the Peak initiative.

To maintain strong reliability and help support continued growth throughout the Texas Hill Country, the Co-op invested in technological solutions in 2013. “PEC has been a longtime industry leader,” said PEC’s Chief Executive Officer John D. Hewa, “and we’re committed to continue evolving to meet the needs of a changing region and membership.” An automated callout system implemented in May has significantly reduced the time it takes to assemble crews during power interruptions.

PEC’s 2014 plans remain ambitious, focusing intensely on the reliability and resiliency of its distribution system. “The Cooperative must ensure that it is ready to respond – not just to everyday challenges but also during landmark events,” said Hewa.
