St Ferdinand Catholic Church’s new sanctuary is completed and ready to welcome worshippers. They held a dedication ceremony performed by Joe Vasquez, Bishop of the Austin diocese, on Friday, December 20. Approximately 200 people attended the event. They first gathered for a musical performance by Christian band, Mariachi Misionero, from St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in San Marcos, in front of the old sanctuary, then proceeded to the new sanctuary.
Bishop Joe Vasquez recognized Father Justin Udomah, Pastor at St. Ferdinand’s, for “creating this beautiful space.” He also expressed gratitude to the finance and building committees. “Less than a year ago,” he continued, “[I was here for the] groundbreaking dedication. As we prepare for Christmas, we marvel at the love of God, revealed in time.” It had been the hope of St. Ferdinand’s that the new building would be completed by Christmas. “We all think it was a miracle.” said Parish Secretary Bonnie Ruiz. “Everything that has happened, from the groundbreaking to this day, was all God’s will.” she added. Building Committee Director Dan Kubin told Blanco County News that there was no worry it wouldn’t be completed by Christmas.
Bishop Joe Vasquez dedicated the building in ‘His Name and to His Honor and to His Glory.” The Bishop also offered two quotes for reflection, Pope Francis in saying “ I see the Church as a field hospital after a battle.”, and Morton T Kelsey, “The church is not a museum for saints but a hospital for sinners.”. He encouraged the congregation to open the new Sanctuary to all those who seek God, and congratulated them on their “wonderful work.”
