A woman went to the butcher shop to buy a chicken for the Sunday meal. The butcher had only one scrawny chicken left. He put it on the scale. “Three pounds,” he said. “That’s too scrawny; don’t you have something bigger?” she asked. He pretended to rummage around, and then put the same chicken back on the scale. But this time he pressed down on the scale with his thumb. “Three and a half pounds,” he said. The lady replied, “That looks better, I’ll take them both.”
In the Old Testament book of Numbers 32:23 we find the statement, “…You have sinned against the Lord, and be sure your sin will find you out”. There is the tendency on the part of many to think that the passage of time cures all transgressions, yet the scriptures state, “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad” (II Corinthians 5:10).
