Celebrate Light Night at First Baptist Church (Community News)

On Thursday, October 31, from 5:30 to 7:30, at First Baptist Church, children and parents are invited to dress up for this FREE event (please, no violent or horror costumes). Blanco area churches are joining together to sponsor a safe alternative to Halloween for the entire Blanco community. There will be fun activities for all ages of children and a special “toddler” games area. During the evening, we will be offering hot dogs and sausage wraps, chips and drinks at no cost.

Light Night is an effort to provide a safe, non-threatening environment for children. For 364 days a year we tell our children NOT to take candy from strangers..and then one day a year we tell them to go into the unknown and ask for candy from strangers…in the dark! Blanco churches would like to change that by funding this evening of family fun. We ask that children not wear horror costumes (i.e., an axe in the head or back or violent weapons).

What’s different this year? (1) Due to the proximity to Panther Stadium and the JV game that will be going on simultaneously, we’ve had to move the Trunk or Treat area into First Baptist’s parking lot. That means you may park at First Baptist along the street. We don’t want children crossing the street in game traffic. (2) We have changed the hours to run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Many parents were having a difficult time getting home from work and getting their children ready by 5 p.m.

Next year, Halloween will fall on a Friday – which is a Varsity Football night. The Light Night planning committee will be trying to come up with an alternative plan. If you have any ideas, please let the ladies at the registration table know at this year’s event.
