Fire Chief Tommy Pinder

The Blanco Volunteer Fire Department (BVFD) has a new Chief. Chief Thomas Pinder, Jr. was selected by the BVFD Board as the new Chief because of his extensive credentials as a fire fighter, his leadership capabilities and his motivation and interest in the Blanco Fire Department. Chief Pinder grew up in New Braunfels, Texas and moved to Blanco 3 months ago with his family. He was graduated from Canyon High School in New Braunfels. He has been a Firefighter since he was 15 years old beginning with the Cibolo VFD. Since 2002, he has been a firefighter for the City of Kirby, TX. In the Kirby Fire Department he is a Fire Captain, Fire Marshal, and Emergency Management Coordinator. Further, he is currently taking courses to become a certified Police Officer.

Asked about his Goals for the BVFD, he replied that high on his list is updating the Insurance Rating for the City of Blanco. This will result in the decrease of many citizens’ insurance costs. He went on to address the challenge of recruiting, training and retaining a sufficient number of motivated volunteers, another goal. Last, his experience has taught him the value of continually pursuing grants and donations that further support the Fire Department’s Mission of providing fire protection and services to the citizens of the Emergency Services District #2 and mutual aid to surrounding communities as needed.

Chief Pinder summed up his interview by stating that he was proud and humbled to become Blanco’s Fire Chief. He looks forward to the challenges and opportunities associated with the position and looks forward to serving the citizens of Blanco.
