Avi Lipkin, internationally known author and speaker, will be speaking Wednesday, August 21, at the First Baptist Church, 1200 West 4th, St., Blanco at 7:00 PM.
Lipkin, who currently lives in Israel, is traveling through the US to share his experiences and his knowledge of the problems in the Middle East. He presents first-hand up-to-date information since his wife, who is Egyptian, translates the news from Arabic radio, TV, and newspapers.
The two houses of Islam are two religious philosophies. The Sunnis and the Shiites have been in conflict since the death of Mohammed himself. There are 1.3 billion Muslims in the world: roughly 85 percent are Sunni and 15 percent are Shiite. The one thing they have in common is their Islamic faith. You cannot understand the events unfolding in the Middle East without understanding their important and complicated history and relationship.
