Why is a clean job site so important? As a builder, we take extra time to make sure our jobsites are always clean. This aids in safety and style of the builder. If we were building your house, would you like to come look at it with trash and debris all around it, stepping over boards and old food? Or, would you like to show up with a clean site and be able to walk around without the worries of falling, stepping on debris, and more? Yes, the clean site wins. As a construction trade, isn’t it nice to show up and be able to just put up your equipment without moving the last trades debris? Yes again.
As I clients point out, it is nice to show up to see their dream home going up and the site be clean and organized. It tells them that they are dealing with a builder that does take pride in their work. It tells them they value the safety of their clients, trades, vendors, and who ever else might show up. If a builder can take the time to keep the site clean and organized, I would say this is how you might find the item they are building too.
Keeping the total job site clean means inside and outside the structure. Inside might need to be swept of nails, papers, wood chips, old food, and more. Outside you have boards, nails, paper, old food to be picked up as well. There should be a trash roll off onsite. This trash bin normally will need to be changed out for another empty one during the course construction. Keeping food picked up inside and out, cuts down on ants, and other hungry critters.
If you are walking a job, wear the proper shoes. There are nails all around, no matter how clean you try to keep the area, you just might step on one. You have exposed boards and pipes that you sure don’t want to stump your toes on.
I would highly advise not to take children to a job site. If you do take them, keep them right with you. There are things they can get hurt on. Some track builders even make all visitors, including the new home owners wear hard hats on their site. Even as a Real Estate agent, when taking my New Home Construction class, we had to wear hard hats at our job sites. If anyone gets hurt on the job site, it can be a liability for the builder.
Whether a small job (like a remodel) to a new home, having a clean job site is very important. If you are considering a builder, you might want to request they keep the job site clean.
