On Saturday, July 20th YCAP will be hosting their monthly EPIC Event. “What better way to celebrate summer, than to hold our annual ‘Splash Bash’ at the city swimming pool?” stated YCAP Director Ray Weeks.
That’s right, YCAP will be holding a summer swim party called “Summer Splash Bash,” at the Johnson City community pool on Saturday, September 20th from 7-9pm. The event is open only to students who will be going into the 5th grade thru the class of 2013 seniors, and it is completely free.
This is a combined middle school and high school event.
YCAP is paying the necessary pool fees and to have lifeguards on duty.
“We’ll also be providing free hot dogs and lemonade at the pool,” stated Director Mike Bacon.
Directly following the swim party, the teens are encouraged to participate in the ‘Splash Bash After Party’ at the YCAP building from 9-11.
“We recognize that there isn’t a lot going on in the summer, and we’re hoping we have a great turnout at this event,” commented YCAP Director Kebirn Rush.
The organization has been trying to provide a fun place for local teens to hang out for the past several years, but is limited to only being able to operate once a month due to limited volunteer support.
However, this past Saturday, an army of volunteers arrived early in the day to help YCAP staff with a “work day.”
Lori Anderson, Noah Weaver, Darrian Smith, Kip and Quaid Thompson, along with a group of men from the First United Methodist Church of Johnson City, known as the “Change the World” crew, came to the rescue. The FUMC Change the World crew is a local group of heroes who volunteer their time and efforts to help those in need. Their mission is simple: to be the hands and feet of Christ and go into the community and serve where they can.
On Saturday, YCAP most certainly received the benefit of their loving and giving spirit as this group of men helped fix a myriad of housekeeping projects, such as installing a portion of ceiling over the refrigerator to help cool the building down, and doing some “light” work on the buildings’ electrical systems.
“The work these guys came in here and did was just amazing. Words just can’t express our gratitude enough. They were a tremendous blessing to us today, and I know the youth and community members who join us also appreciate it greatly,” stated YCAP President Josh Gissel.
