Observed: Hazardous liquid dumped in a drainage ditch. Found: Signs of automobile oil on the banks of the Blanco. Collected: Fishing line in the duck habitat. Sighted: Numerous fast food and beverage container-strewn roads. All of the above are harmful to the environment. Pollutants such as paint thinner, oil, old fuel and even detergents get into Blanco’s drinking water when dumped along the river or in ditches that drain into the river. Ducks, fish and even four-legged critters get entangled in discarded fishing line. This is a kiss of death to these creatures. Litter along the roadsides is unsightly. Broken bottles are a health hazard. You may not think the little bit of pollution you are adding to our environment will mean anything in the “big picture,” but it does. Every irresponsible act adds to the contamination of our environment. Please help keep Blanco’s environment clean. Residents of the city deserve to lead their lives in an environment in which they can grow, play and age safely.
