Shop online often? Now your purchases at Amazon, iTunes, Home Depot, Target, Sears and other participating vendors can benefit the Blanco Good Samaritan Center with only a click or two at GiveAsYouGet.com.
This month, the non-profit Blanco center–which assists needy families across Blanco County–was added to more than 90 non-profit groups helped by the Austin-based website. Launched in May 2011 by founder David Sandal, GiveAsYouGet.com so far has raised more than $6,600 for non-profit organizations.
“Give As You Get was created to use the power of the Internet to bring together the wants of donors and the needs of non-profits,” Sandal states on the website. “Give As You Get gives you an easy way to buy the items you want with a percentage going to your favorite organization. You’ll continue to use your established shopping carts on some of the web’s most popular stores.”
To benefit the Good Samaritan, go to GiveAsYouGet.com and select the Blanco center as your chosen charity. Next, click on the store you want (more than 40 businesses are listed). GiveAsYouGet.com will then link your browser to your selected store. After that, shop as usual and a percentage of your total will be given to the Blanco Good Samaritan Center. Contributions take a few days before they show up on an agency’s total contributions that are listed on the GiveAsYouGet.com site.
Other participating vendors include Best Buy, Barnes & Noble, Office Depot, Groupon, Expedia, Hanes, Kohl’s, Macy’s, Body Shop, PetSmart, OverStock, Sam’s Club and many more.
The Blanco Good Samaritan Center helps people in need in Blanco and Blanco County. All funds for the center come from donations of several local churches, individual gifts and the sale of second-hand clothing and other items at the center’s thrift store. No local, state or federal funds support the all-volunteer center.
The pantry and thrift store are open weekdays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The center is located at 620 Pecan St. For more information and/or to volunteer, call 833-5269 or visit online www.blancogoodsam.org. Follow the center on Facebook and Twitter (@BlancoGoodSam)
